As long as there’s life, there’s hope.

Happy New Month, My Friend

Welcome to a fresh new month! I’m sending you my warmest wishes as we step into this chapter together.

I’m deeply grateful to you for joining me on my journey of self-discovery through writing last month. Your thoughtful comments and support, sharing my articles—it all means so much. May the Almighty bless you for your kindness.

Today, as we stand on the threshold of this new month, I’m taking my writing in a different direction—a bit of reflection on “nothing” in particular, yet something I believe many of us feel deeply right now.

The world is tough these days, whether you’re here in Nigeria or in the diaspora. Inflation is soaring, and the global economy feels more fragile than ever. But beyond the economic pressures, we each face personal struggles—questions about whether we’re truly our best selves, the weight of debts, dilemmas about relocating, the challenges of job or house hunting, relationship stresses, and self-development worries. For millennials, these pressures feel even heavier.

I’m here to tell you, not as a preacher but as a friend navigating this journey too: as long as there’s life, there’s hope. You are resilient. Look back, and you’ll see that you’ve overcome greater challenges before. Now’s the time to gather your strength and face the present ones head-on. And remember, you don’t have to do it alone. Talk to a friend—two heads really are better than one. If you’re short on trusted friends, confide in a sibling or family member. In tough times, parents often love unconditionally. Or reach out to a counselor, therapist, or spiritual guide—whatever helps. Just don’t carry this weight alone.

You can also invest in yourself in ways that might bring fresh perspective: pursue a remote job, take an online course, learn a new language, or lose yourself in a book. Growth doesn’t have to be drastic; even small steps can lead to powerful change.

I believe in you. You will get through this, just as you have before. Soon, you’ll look back and see this as another victory. Don’t let worries steal your joy—because you are wonderful, capable, and deserving of happiness.

Thank you for reading, and here’s to another month together. Tomorrow, I’ll be back with more reflections on “nothing,” whatever that might bring.

Happy new month!

With friendship,

K. Nakamoto

You are absolutely right man, this write up reminds me of the Navy Seals SWIM BUDDY approach The Swim Buddy approach is a core part of Navy Seal training, where every recruit is assigned someone responsible for supporting them unfailingly through the trials and tribulations of their rigorous training program. The corporate equivalent is someone who is committed to observing and sharing unvarnished feedback on your performance. While it is challenging to think about trusting someone in the workplace to have your back, I’ve yet to encounter a client unable to recruit a swim buddy. Often, the recruiting pitch involves reciprocity. Gain a swim buddy by becoming one for that person. I truly believe that's an effective way to go through life and overcome hard times
